As part of your journey you can stop off and stay on Thanda Island, your very own private getaway in paradise, off the east coast of Tanzania. We offer an exclusive package that includes Thanda Island and Over the Rainbow of London. Thanda Island is one of the world’s most desired island retreats as you have the entire island and its Villa to yourself. Situated in its own unique private marine reserve, the Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve, this is an experience like none other.
Zanzibar and Pemba Island
For breathtaking scenery and diving, the East African islands of Zanzibar and Pemba offer mysteries to be explored and colours in which you will immerse yourself. The marine life and underwater world with exceptional visibility will literally enchant you and enliven all your senses in an average water temperature of 26°C. From ancient times, cloves, peppers, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg from India, Indonesia and Malaysia were brought to these islands by wooden dhows sailing the monsoon winds. Spice farming is the main farming activity on Zanzibar today. Experience a spice tour and the mystique of the old city of Stone Town.
Mafia Island and the Songo Songo Archipelago
A short sail from Thanda Island is Mafia Island and the Mafia Island Marine Park, and the Songo Songo group of islands. This region has some of the most spectacular reefs for diving and snorkelling in sub-Saharan Africa. On Mafia Island you can hop into its legendary Landrover taxis and explore eleventh century ruins, village communities and traditional boat-building craftsmen.
Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
The Quirimbas are a remarkable group of 32 islands stretching more than 200km along the Northern Mozambican coastline. These islandS are a little known marine secret where Over the Rainbow of London dances to the Mozambican beat between pristine islands with palm-fringed beaches. The region is known for its exquisite coral reefs and waters inhabited by dolphins, whales and dugongs. The utterly secluded Matemo, Medjumbe and Vamizi islands have infinite white beaches and exceptional dive sites.
This vast, intriguing island in waters rich with marine life, has breathtaking beaches, reefs, waterfalls and rainforests with thousands of plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world, such as its lemurs and 90% of its plant species. It’s literally a unique evolutionary wonder. The first people to settle here from 350 BC were seafarers from Borneo who sailed on outrigger canoes. Several small islands are dotted around Madagascar, which makes for exciting adventuring.
